April 14th - Brighton Marathon

14 Apr 2015

On Sunday April 12th, nine heroic runners took part in the Brighton Marathon to raise funds for INTO Giving. The race, the second largest UK marathon, takes in the city streets, a hilly climb and Brighton’s lengthy promenade with the stunning backdrop of the sea.

Our INTO Giving team put in an epic performance on the day, alongside nearly 10,000 other runners. Seven members of the team were INTO University Partnerships employees, and two had heard about INTO Giving through friends and family. The team came from across the UK and the globe - Steven Li combined business meetings in the UK with taking part in the challenge and came all the way from China!

A great day!

The weather was perfect – brilliant sunshine and a light cool breeze - with thousands of people lining the streets providing non-stop support. The challenge was tough and post-race Tuukka Hinttula said, ‘If you want to run, run a mile. If you enjoy or want to experience pain, run a marathon!’ He did conclude that the buzzing atmosphere on the day and the feeling of crossing the finish line was the perfect antidote for the pain he felt.

Thank You!

The team raised over £5,000 by race day, and the total continues to rise. These funds will help us to support our next educational project – to be announced in late spring.

Putting in impressive times and showing resilience at every step, our runners did us proud and are truly inspirational. Still feeling the impact of the race, Gordon Lunan said ‘Never again!’, but Luke Moscrop, replied with ‘Never say never, Gordon…’

We cannot thank our INTO Giving team enough for their strength, passion and determination at the race, and during the months of training leading up to it. We hope that their aching limbs will ease over the next few days as they enjoy a well-earned rest.

If you’re not the type to say ‘never’ and would like to sign up to a sporting challenge to raise funds for INTO Giving, whether it be a climb, a jump, a walk or the Brighton Marathon 2016 get in touch!
