Teachers give up their time to help at the Poonsab Preschool

In April 2015 Jo May, a teacher from London, ran in our incredible INTO Giving Brighton Marathon Team! Through joining the team, she learnt more about INTO Giving and our work with worldwide educational projects and decided to volunteer at one of our projects, the Poonsab Preschool, Bangkok.

The Poonsab Preschool welcomed Jo May and her friend Andrea Drepaul, a fellow teacher, to volunteer for two weeks this July.  Jo and Andrea spent their time at the preschool, successfully teaching and playing with the children, despite the language barrier.

Jo particularly valued the experience of learning how to teach in classrooms where materials are not as accessible as they are in the UK. ‘We have learnt ways to overcome the language barrier when teaching, a skill which will be invaluable to us as teachers back in the UK. We wanted to do our bit to help the children over here, and also to learn about how teaching can be when stripped of all the privileges we take for granted back home in the UK’, she said.

Pornthip Kanchiang, Volunteer and Project Coordinator at HDF Mercy Centre said, ‘I would like to thank both of you (Jo and Andrea) for your time and effort to travel all the way to the school and help them. It's very kind of you. If you ever travel to Thailand again, please visit HDF Mercy Centre again, our doors are always open for friends and supporters.’
