Hole in one as INTO UEA Charity Golf Day yields most-ever funds

INTO UEA’s ninth annual Charity Golf Day hit a new high this year, raising £5,326 (US$7,000) for INTO Giving. All funds raised – every penny – goes towards helping schoolchildren and teachers around the world.

Plus, through INTO Giving’s iGive initiative, an additional £500 was raised for local non-profit organisation Great Yarmouth and Gorleston Young Carers.

Led, as always, by INTO UEA Facilities Manager Paul Carter and the indispensable Vanessa Girling, INTO UEA Executive PA and Project Officer, the INTO UEA golf tournament is a truly centre-wide affair. Many participants (and helping hands, including INTO UEA Centre Director Debbie Price) are INTO UEA employees, together with INTO UEA suppliers, family and friends.

With the summer sun shining hard after the previous day’s rain, the course spread greenly in the valley, golfers hit the links after a breakfast of coffee and bacon sandwiches. From there, teams of three or four competed for best team score over 18 holes, and a handful of individual competitions, including ‘nearest the pin’ and putting.

But the day doesn’t end after the last putt is sunk. Following the tournament (and following the ribbing, the commiserations, the swaggering delivery of certain scorecards) it’s time for a sit down dinner. And then, the plates cleared away and the coffee served, the fundraising raffle and auction begin, followed swiftly by prizes for best individual and team scores.

The Top 3 teams at this year’s INTO UEA Golf Tournament were:
Project FF&E – 89 points
Kiss on Tour – 88 points
Rapid Dry – 87 points

There’s more. Because the £500 for Great Yarmouth and Gorleston Young Carers (GYGYC) was raised through iGive, INTO Giving tops it up by an extra 20% – in this case, an extra £100. GYGYC is a small, non-profit organisation, local to INTO UEA, supporting children and young people 8-25-years-old who provide care for their parents or another family member.

Whether it’s an iGive fundraising event of your own for a non-profit organisation close to your own heart, or an INTO Giving golf day for your INTO centre or office, you can do it!
