Saint Louis University's service challenge!

26 Oct 2018

On Monday, October 22, faculty and staff of INTO SLU participated in Saint Louis University’s Inaugural Staff Day of Service. In the spirit of “setting the world on fire,” departments and divisions chose to give their time and effort to helping local non-profits through the new volunteer effort. The service day also coincides with SLU’s bicentennial service challenge and allowed faculty and staff members to take time together to “display one of our best assets; the power and influence of our community working together to serve others.”

The faculty and staff of INTO SLU visited Laclede Groves Senior Living Community. Volunteers assisted with transporting residents from their rooms to the event room for a Red Hat luncheon. They also helped serve food and drinks for the residents that chose to participate in the luncheon.

Service to the community is at the heart of SLU’s mission and identity. All members of the SLU community, from staff to first-year students, are encouraged to participate in service during their time and SLU and after. At INTO SLU, two courses are dedicated to providing Pathway students with opportunities to give back to the community while also learning English. The courses are called “English Through Service” and fosters a consciousness social justice.
