How can you help?

INTO Giving is supporting acutely deprived Glaswegian schoolchildren through the Caledonian Club, with grants totalling £4,000 over 2016-18.

Our support enables children to participate in creative learning workshops - for example write and illustrate your own book - and wokshops that help students explore and enrol in post-school vocational or educational pathways.

Glasgow is the most deprived area in Scotland, with high levels of child poverty. Recent government statistics on school-leaver destinations show that Glaswegian schoolchildren are startlingly under-represented in higher education by as much as 20% below the Scottish average.

Caledonian Club goes many a long mile in helping break this cycle. The Club addresses the chronic under-representation of individuals from disadvantaged backgrounds within higher and further education in Glasgow, through the provision of long-term programmes, running from nursery through to secondary school.

Caledonian Club is unique in that its work creates impact in five different areas of multiple deprivation in Glasgow by using a cluster approach. Each cluster includes a nursery, primary and secondary school, allowing the Club to build a long-term relationship with schools, pupil beneficiaries and their parents.

It is the only UK programme of its kind to work with whole year groups in their educational journey, from nursery children as young as three to those preparing to leave secondary school in sixth year.

The Club educational aspirations and promote positive post-school destinations, whilst helping these children build confidence and important life skills by actively engaging with children and their families. Their innovative projects designed in partnership with our schools and nurseries enhance their curriculum in line with the Scottish Curriculum for Excellence.
